Mercury Cazimi | February 9th, 2025: Loud and Clear
I’ll be unlocking the full article for free readers on the 8th. Technically, the Cazimi begins late on the 7th for North America, but the exact 0° conjunction isn’t until early on the 9th. So I’m unlocking it in a window of potency. And because 8 is a good number.
The Sun brings courage to the voice and honesty to the intellect. The rising heat of the day brings lift to the wings.
Mercury Cazimis are moments of sharp clarity and impeccable communication. The messenger of the gods, empowered with the full force of Sol at his back. His path illuminated and his pace enlivened. From the moment of transmission, to the moment of reception, everything gets where it needs to go - smooth and lossless. That makes Mercury Cazimis especially ripe for enchantment as well.
The World Moment
With this transit occurring in Aquarius, it’s worth noting that Pluto is still in the vicinity, and considering everything that has happened1 since the Pluto Cazimi (inauguration day), we aren’t out of the woods yet. This promises to be another activation moment in the Pluto-Aquarius milieu.
Look out for a crystal clear message to be sent at this time.
Noteworthy Configurations
- Mercury Cazimi Square Uranus
With the Sun+Mercury in Aquarius Squaring Uranus in Taurus, this promises friction arising from shifting values and circumstances, especially where markets and supply lines are concerned. On the world stage, this may appear as an ultimatum delivered by forces within the global economy. We can pretty easily apply this to the rising concern over tariffs and digital currencies, as well as the rising civil unrest.
This is when DOGE becomes the official digital currency of the US government and we get the first season of a long-awaited series. I’m probably kidding. Probably.
- Moon+Mars Trining Saturn
We see the Moon moving through its domicile, increasing the overwhelming emotional properties of Cancer and coming into conjunction with a very unhappy, retrograde Mars, whose drive and combustive power already suffer in the sign of his Fall. Being retrograde there is a double-whammy, and with the Moon stopping by to cry all over his flame, it’s possibly the worst shape Mars can be in.
I associate Mars in Cancer with improper expressions of anger (passive aggressive tendencies, cattitude, bottling/exploding cycles) and inverted expressions of desire. Mars wants to do push-ups and chug brewskis, but just keeps eating ice cream in bed and crying about his ex. There is also an inordinate number of mafiosos with Mars in Cancer (Al Capone), so the Cancer tendency to protect one’s inner circle can take on a dark and vicious tone with Mars presiding. Pre-emptive strikes and sudden cuts when one feels threatened.
If that isn’t bad enough, this pairing will be trining Saturn by exact degree, which seems like a moment of getting gut-checked by the Old Man for one’s miserable indulgences. Possibly seeing the consequences of withdrawal or nesting a little too hard. Or the consequences of emotional outbursts. Reality swoops in to tell you to get it together, and won’t be nice about it. Alternatively, Saturn’s cold, entrapping qualities could further suppress motivating Martial qualities, or exacerbate the tendency to cloister up. This could create legitimate problems with reaching consequences.
This all happens on the heels of Venus’ ingress of Aries. Being in her Adversity in a Mars-ruled sign, with Mars retrograding through the heart of Cancer (the sign of his Fall), neither of them are terribly thrilled, and they share the story of Desire. The goddess of love and war is leaning more on the spear right about now. This might be a time that is ripe for communicating emotions repressed within relationships. Or it might end up being…mandatory, to put it lightly. Either way, someone is getting the message about things that need to change, or desires working at cross-purposes.
Put simply: Malefic. Emotions. Contents under pressure.
This is a poor time for general understanding, patience and sweetness, but the weather is right for opening the mouth. It’s possible for disagreements to sour into hostility and resentment, but especially if one suppresses the burning questions and comments.
A Promethean Aside
Over the past year, I’ve had a deluge of synchronicity involving Prometheus and Frankenstein. Even did some involved ritual around it.
Well on this day, the 8th of February, 2025, the Prometheus statue in my home town turns 50 years old. Now if you look at the transit chart, you’ll notice that Mercury, the King of Thieves, is Squaring Uranus, who is often mapped to Zeus. Although the astrologer Richard Tarnas has suggested renaming Uranus to Prometheus - and after the downloads I’ve gotten, I’m starting to agree.
But anyway, Mercury+Sun in Aquarius Squaring Uranus in Taurus? That is very much some ‘stealing fire from Olympus and giving it out amongst the people’ energy. I make mention of it because well…it has entered my awareness, and I’m not turning away.

If you want to capitalize on the increased magical potency of this moment, it might be worth trying a sweetening jar, or other methods of increasing kindness, good will or diplomacy in order to mitigate fall-out. Alternatively, the stars of this moment might be appropriate for promoting honesty through the influence of the Mercury Cazimi. Any pursuits involving writing, speaking and research are also elevated at this time.

Or if push comes to shove and your situation calls for war water, a freezer spell could serve to shove someone into the Mars Rx in Cancer locker. If you’re diabolical. But it’s good that you aren’t, right? Right.

Tragicomically enough, I had been silently joking to myself that we were going to see the Return of the Doge in this administration before actually seeing this news. Some part of me felt the joke was some kind of true. I wish my intuition was right less of the time.
